CLEAR THE ROOM AND START AGAIN
That’s how you do anything. You persist until it is done. Its like when you are working on a jigsaw puzzle. You try a piece, it fits. You try fitting another piece, it doesn’t fit. So you get another piece and you keep trying until one fits. Then its late at night and you still haven’t finished the puzzle. You need some sleep.
So you go to sleep. Clear your mind and start again.
Depending how big a puzzle it is, every morning you clear the room and start again. Fresh new set of eyes,
fresh and alert thinking. Brand new and ready to go.
Guess what? The one mystery piece you spent the last 45 minutes looking for last night is now right in front of you. It was there all along.
That’s why sometimes when working on a challenge in your life its good to get a new set of eyes or ears because we don’t always see what we are looking for which a lot of times right in front of us. Someone else comes along and says ‘What about this way…have you thought of that?’ and there it is. The obvious solution.
Its like the construction workers working at the overpass. There was a big Truck 18 Wheeler hauling some goods and it got stuck trying to go under the bridge. The workers tried to pull it free. They attached chains to it, brought in heavy equipment and gave it another tug. Still the big truck just wouldn’t move an inch. They had been working on it for 2 hours and still no success.
Next thing you know a little boy about 8 years old comes along and says to the workers ‘What are you doing?’ No one replied or paid attention to him so he asked again. ‘Excuse me, but what are you doing?’
Finally one of the workers turned around and said,
‘Well if you must know, we are trying to get this truck out from under this overpass because it is stuck’
The boy looked over at the truck and then said ‘Well thats easy, why don’t you just let the air out of the tires’ Of course the workers were dumbfounded at the obvious solution that had been there all along and here comes the little boy with a different point of view.
Many times the answer we are looking for is right in front of us. We are just too close to see it.
The next time you are working on an answer for something or are trying to figure out a challenge that is going on in your life, take a break. Go for a walk. Go get a glass of milk out of the fridge or maybe just read a book for 5 minutes. Then go back to what you were working on. Many times an obvious solution will just pop up.
What happens when you take a break is it distracts your conscious mind. So your conscious mind takes a break and this allows your subconscious mind to jump in there and search for an answer.
So when we are working on something, sometimes we have to just slow it down. Take your time. Focus on the problem in the back of your mind and just know that the answer is there. Eventually it will surface.
So what is the biggest challenge you are working on at this time in your life? Better yet, what one thing would you like to accomplish that you just maybe aren’t sure how you would do it but would like to figure out.
There are different possibilities here. What we first do when we are trying to figure something out is we look at our own self and ask ‘what do we know about this?’
Then after we’ve gone through that file in our mind we then ask ‘who could I talk to that might know this?’
That's where most people stop looking for an answer because after that any answer then looks impossible to find or figure out. ‘It is impossible’ we say in our mind. Here’s the thing though. We do not know what we do not know. There is an answer, it's just that we don’t know it. We don’t know the person that knows it.
We actually have doubt that it even exists. But the answer is out there. Someone knows the answer. We just don’t know of or know that person that knows it.
Just because we can’t think of the answer right now doesn’t mean the answer is not there. It's there. Just like the answers to all our dreams, inspirations and desires are all there too. We just don’t spend enough time keeping our mind open and thinking about possibilities of the answer.
So think about that one big thing or one great dream you have that you could start working on today. Even if it took you 3 months 3 years or 10 years to accomplish it. Knowing that it might take a while to achieve it, would it still be worth it for you.
What do you want so badly, with so much desire, that knowing you can have it, that it's worth re-inventing your whole self? What is that for you?
Go back to your notebook and look at your list of things you would like to be have or do. What one goal really stands out for you? One that you think about often. That consumes you. That you go to sleep with and wake up in the morning with?
Now imagine that once you started working on that everyday that each night when you went to sleep you could be thinking how much you got done today. And to be able to think about that each night as you went to sleep. Think what your life would be like knowing each day is a step closer. What is that for you and what has to happen for you to get started on it today?
Then get up in the morning, clear the room and start again.
